It’s true that being able to speak publicly is a preferred general business skill, which benefits anyone in any industry. But for security professionals, the ability to verbally communicate to teach and persuade is particularly important.
Speaking skills are required for any security job. From CISOs to SOC analysts, security professionals present ideas, plans and solutions, persuading leaders and partners to be more secure. The ability to take a position, craft an argument, deliver that argument (or tell a story) with authority while being empathic to the position of the audience, and generating an intended reaction, are all part of the work of running a security task, project or program.
